FAQs
Do I have to live in Solon?
A large majority of Solon United players live in Solon, and we are proud to represent the city. There are exceptions, though.
Where are practices and games held?
Practices have historically been held at fields at Solon Community Park, Orchard Middle School and in Glenwillow.
Can I play other sports at the same time?
Yes! Many Solon United players compete in other sports. We do, however, expect our players to be available for practices and games, so communication between sports and your Solon United team coaches and managers is extremely important. The level of commitment required should be taken into account when players accept their spots on a Solon United team. Questions can be directed to a Solon United board member. Player and family commitment is a factor in their selection to a team the following year.
Does everyone that tries out make a team?
No. We field competitive teams and push players to improve with an ultimate goal of playing for Solon High School. Players seeking an introduction to the game should consider a local recreational program.
How much does the program cost, and what does it include?
For the 2025-26 season, player dues are $850, plus applicable registration fees charged by our vendor. Those fees provide access to 10 months of high-level instruction and competition.
How much do uniforms cost and how often are they changed?
Uniforms typically cost about $150-$200, and include shorts, two jerseys, a practice jersey, socks, pinny and personalized Solon United bag.
How does Travel soccer compare to Rec and Club?
Recreational soccer is for introduction to the game and provides a relaxed setting for beginner players. Travel programs generally are an introduction to a more competitive soccer scene, and Solon United players play against teams from across the area, depending upon their divisional placement in their age group. Club programs represent the next step up, with steeper competition, more competition for spots and more travel for games.
Can I play on Club and Travel at the same time?
You can, though a commitment to Solon United represents a commitment to being available first for Solon United training and games. We select teams based on those commitments, and we expect players to be available based on that commitment. As mentioned above, a lack of commitment during a season may be a factor in a player being offered a spot the following year.
How are teams selected?
Solon United board members, parent coaches and trainers combine to evaluate all players who try out. Once tryouts are completed, those individuals gather to collaborate on team selections. We involved many voices in each age group’s tryouts to ensure a variety of voices and fair, objective feedback.
Do the professional trainers also coach the teams during games?
No. Parents coach Solon United teams during games.
How are team coaches selected?
Parents can volunteer to coach their team, though doing so does not guarantee that individual would be chosen. If teams do not have volunteers for coaches, Solon United board members will proactively identify potential candidates and gauge availability and ability to serve in that capacity.
